Somalia: Somali President Pays Visit to a UAE run Military Training Base in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Observer) Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo on Saturday visited Gen. Goordan military training base in Mogadishu and praised the Somali army for their bravery, while admitting that the arms embargo represents a major setback for the recovery of Somalia national army.

While addressing the army recruits, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo praised the Somali army for their bravery.

“The arms embargo on Somalia is one of the major setbacks toward recovering Somali national army.” President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said in a statement released by the office of the Somali President on Saturday.

The military training base, which is manned by the UAE, is currently training 12,00 Somali army recruits with highly skilled trainers. UAE also runs another training facility in Puntland.  Recently It has also opened a military base in Berbera, Somaliland.

 Several countries have already setup military training basis in Somalia, among them the United States. Recently Turkey joined the number of countries with military training facilities in Somalia.
Turkish government opened one of its biggest overseas military base in the horn of Africa nation which is expected to train more that 1500 troops at a time.
