Well, PP cadres might be insufficiently political to be able to comprehend the complex politics of empire Ethiopia since PP leaders and their handlers (the neftegna and neo-neftegna) are fundamentally dishonest with the Ethiopian peoples as well as their own cadres.

As government activities and political developments as well as political statements from the so called “reform teams”, headed by Abiy Ahmed, indicate the moves of the PP and “Ezema” seem to be gearing towards unitary system in which the ethnic based federal arrangements are bound to be reversed. The neftegna and neo-neftegna are doing all they can to use PP and reimpose themselves, using the influences and other advantages they gained through discriminatory government policies and bureaucratic structures put in place to exclude “others”. That is, they are working hard on their project of undoing the constitution of the country, which has granted relatively better rights of self rule, though on paper, to the nations of Ethiopia for the first time in the history of the country. They use a power which Fukuyama (2018) terms “vetrocracy” – “the ability of interest groups to block collective action” in order to twist the hands of Abiy Ahmed and his team, and reverse the federal arrangements,to weaken and gradually erase the capacities of Ethiopian nations to make collective bargains.

Note that replacing the fascist TPLF/EPRDF regime by the neftegna and neo-neftegna might be what PP and “Ezema are pushing for. Can the fact that TPLF/EPRDF inflicted untold harm to the Ethiopian peoples saint the neftegna and neo-neftegna who have been equally repressive?

The support the Federalist forces are enjoying throughout the country emanates from the fact that the great Oromo people and other historically marginalized nations of Ethiopia are saying “never again” to neftegna and neo-neftegna rules. They are saying no to neo-neftegna, who are yearning to reimpose themselves through PP and “Ezema”. In other words, while the aspirations of the Federalist forces is in line with the big objectives of the Ethiopian people, “isothymia” – “the demand to be respected on an equal basis with other people”, the neftegna and neo-neftegna are motivated by “megalothymia” – “the desire to be recognized as superior”. Tragically, PP cadres, being former TPLF servants, not only are incapable of understanding political realities of Ethiopia and its peoples but also lack “thymos” – “the part of the soul that craves recognition of dignity”.

Clearly, the PP leaders are sneaking in neo-neftegna agendas under the pretext of attaining prosperity, and their cadres are trying to enforce damaging policies on our people without understanding the damages they are causing to the people they claim to belong to. Probably, PP cadres are motivated by personal gains which their superiors throw to them from leftovers of the resources they rob from our people. Fukuyama (ibid.), refers to this kinds of people as “men without chests who spend their lives in endless pursuit of consumer satisfaction, but who have nothing at core, no higher goals or ideals for which they are willing to strive and sacrifice”. Nevertheless, the Ethiopian peoples are politically matured beyond the comprehension of PP cadres and their handlers, and are capable of “separating the wheat from the chaff”. The remarkably huge turnouts in support of the Federalist Forces are significant validations of the arguments for the ethnic based federal system and the rejection of the disingenuous motives of PP and ” Ezema” to reimpose unitary system under the guise of promised prosperity. Fukuyama (again), asserts that “demand for recognition of one’s identity is a master concept that unifies much of what is going on in world politics today. … Much of what passes for economic motivation is, …, actually rooted in the demand for recognition and therefore cannot simply be satisfied by economic means”. This means that PP cannot cheat the great Oromo people and other nations of Ethiopia out of their demands for greater freedoms and justice, by simply promising prosperity that will never be delivered with neo-neftegna in the driving seats.

Oromo and other historically marginalized nations of Ethiopia: Your destinies are in your hands and the future belongs to you if you keep neo-neftegna at bay, and forge genuine alliances with each other to democratize Ethiopia. “Read between the lines”. “In politics, being deceived is no excuse”!
