Re: Appeal to Stop the Ongoing Genocide on the Oromo People
Dear Mr./Ms./ Recipient:
We are the Oromo native Citizens of the United States and European Nations and we are deeply concerned about the endless and endless genocide strategies of the Ethiopian against innocent civilian Oromo people of Ethiopia. We are writing to you, and all peace-loving Citizens and nations of the world, because the conflict that is brewing in Ethiopia today will be destabilizing the entire horn and cause a catastrophe that will be considerably higher than the 1994 Rwanda genocide in magnitude.
The Oromo people have been under the tyranny of the Ethiopian colonial empire for the last 150 years. Although the Oromo people are the majority of the empire, they have been marginalized under successive Ethiopian dictatorial governments who were treating Oromos like a second-class-citizens. The Oromo people have been resisting all repressive Ethiopian governments for the last 150 years. Over the last 28 years, Oromos and other several minority Nationalities of the country have been under the repressive rule of the EPRDF (Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front). In the last five years of the 28 years of the EPRDF tyranny, the Oromo struggle reached its climax that has remarkably pushed the country to at least speak to the rest of the world their paths were never different from terrorism; because the nation was almost close to the point of breaking apart. In 2018, the EPRDF was forced to partially listen to the popular demand and some of the dictatorial members presented themselves as supporters of pro-democracy and pro- change although the facts behind them were only a chameleon style of survival. Because some of leaders of these group were either grown up in Oromia or they are Oromos by blood. Thus, the Oromo youth who have been spearheading the struggle, and the Oromo public at large decided to give them a chance of repentance by minimizing protests. Despite losing more than 5,000 Oromo youth called “Kero or in Afan Oromo Qeerroo”, women, and men of all ages in the struggle, the Oromo people chose the peace of the region and the Horn in general. The Oromo celebrated the glimpse of peace and gave a chance so that the “new” leaders transition the country into democracy. However, as of today the government of Abiy Ahmed, who was an EPRDF army colonel himself and currently the prime minister of EPRDF seen by many as a pro-change leader is drifted back to the worst terrorizing approaches against Oromo. In fact, the Prime minister himself told the world that his government was terrorizing the nation. As the result, originally, he presented himself that his government was determined to change the terrorizing strategies of the old leadership his own party. The fact of the matter is the opposite has been true, because he has been upgrading the terrorism strategies to the worst stage. The simplest justifications are his government has started using chemical attacks on civilian Oromo, on nature, burning human alive, burning homes, cattle and wild lives are a few which were never seen during the well know terrorism of the TPLF leadership which he publicly explained in one of his compelling speeches.
Unfortunately, the direction of the expected change took a wrong turn and thousands of Oromo citizens are, once again ended up being murdered, handicapped, evicted, raped, imprisoned, tortured, looted, impoverished, abducted or massacred for no fault of their own, except being Oromo and supporting their credible and honest political organization of their choice.
Under the leadership of Dr. Abiy Ahmed, several unthinkable atrocities have been taking place. Based on the information that we received from the inner circles of the prime minister, more frightening heinous genocidal military strategies are being planned to be carried out on the Oromo people under the pretext that they are supporting Oromo Liberation Front (OLF). To accomplish its ethnic cleansing plan, the government of Dr. Abiy has started using chemical weapon on innocent Oromo citizens. We are in the process of compiling detailed information on the use of prohibited chemical weapons on Oromo civilians and will make it available to the international community in the near future.
In the current report, we have compiled hundreds of killings, rapes, and property destruction committed by the EPRDF killing squads and elite police forces. Most of the killings and property destruction are supported by photos taken by our agents on the ground. More detailed information about each incident reported herein can be provided upon request. The following list summarizes the inhumane atrocities committed against the innocent Oromo civilians in different parts of the Oromia region after Abiy Ahmad came to power (for detailed information, additional documents are presented).
Herein, we presented a brief outline of the recent overviews of unbelievable shocking crimes and inhumanity against the Oromos; for detailed list of specific victims of the reckless military of the Ethiopian government, please refer to the attached spread sheet.
- The number of civilian Oromo directly killed by the Ethiopian federal army were more than 194.
- At least three of the Killed civilian victims were denied burial and eaten by wild beasts.
- Several of the killed victims were burned by the EPRDF federal army in their homes.
- The number of wounded civilian Oromo by the EPRDF army were countless but over 11 individuals were under critically conditions.
- The identity of 14 individuals were identified by the community.
- Numerous raped Oromo women, including a 13 years old teenage girl, about 12 cases were documented by our local representatives.
- Hundreds of Oromo homes were burned down by the EPRDF federal army; the local residents have documented evidences for about 458 homes.
- Over 65 Oromo stores were burned by the EPRDF federal army.
- Thousands of animals were burned in barns; as of today, unknown number, but estimated to be several thousands.
- Looted Coffee by the EPRDF federal army is estimated to be more than 100,300 kilograms.
- Looted cash money from Oromo civilians by the EPRDF federal army is more than 1,030,000.00 birr.
The government of Abiy Ahmed is killing Oromo Liberation army (OLA).OLF is the only honest political organization with clear policies to protects all people against discrimination and marginalization in Oromia in order to stabilize and transform the regional peace. OLF has been in exile for the last 28 years but returned home after rounds of negotiations held with the Ethiopian government.
The world must realize the important of OLF to transform the deteriorating political stability of the Horn, because over 50 million Oromo believed in the honest political party that represent them. This was proved on September 15, 2018 when OLF leadership arrived in Finfinnee (Addis Ababa). At least six to 10 million Oromo people turned out to welcome them home. That number of peaceful people has never been seen in that nation’s history to celebrate and welcome a political party. That was the starting point where clear frustration of the Ethiopian government started to rethink about its reform because they realized that all Oromo believed in OLF. Thus, they immediately started harassing and imprisoning OLF members and supporters. The Ethiopian government reneged on the terms of their agreement, including the fate of OLA who were disarmed themselves to accelerate the peace process. However, Ethiopia immediately declared war on OLA and decided to force the disarmament of the remaining OLA members. Several clashes have been occurring between OLA and the murderous Ethiopian army that occasionally resulted in heavy losses of the Ethiopian military. This is apparently the bases of the expansion of inhumane atrocious actions of using chemical weapons against Oromo civilians.
Therefore, we are appealing to peace loving nations, human rights organizations, the great Oromo people, and the oppressed people of Ethiopia to put a pressure on the government of Abiy Ahmed to come back to an honest negotiating table towards peace of the region. The stability of the Horn depends on the 150 years old quest of the 50 million Oromo people for freedom and self-governance instead of attempting to forcefully quash their demand.
Sincerely,
Concerned Oromo Group
