Ambassador Mike spoke at the launch of our next Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation project aimed at restoring the Aba Jiffar Palace in Jimma.

During the launch Ambassador Mike said, “This work supports a broader vision of creating a new cultural destination in the region that links the heritage of coffee, Aba Jiffar Palace, and Jimma into a broader context that reflects the extraordinary history, culture, and potential of this extraordinary part of Ethiopia.” The United States Government provided $125,000 for the preservation. The project will also train a team of timber craftsmen and empowered to design and implement a maintenance plan to care for this palace, and eventually other historical sites in Ethiopia, well into the future.
