Abiy Ahmed won a Nobel peace prize. Now Ethiopia is on the brink of civil war

At about 2am Ethiopian time on Wednesday morning, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took to his Facebook page to make a grave announcement. “The Ethiopian Defense Forces, run by a command post, have been tasked with saving the country,” he said. He said that the regional government of Tigray, a northern province, was guilty of “crossing a red line” and that Ethiopian troops had been ordered to take action. “I call on Ethiopians to remain calm, be on high alert and back the military effort.”
Several commentators have described this as tantamount to a declaration of war against one of Ethiopia’s own regional states.

  1. It so sad, Alfred Nobel must be rolling in his grave. This lunatic is Nobel peace laureate. The Norwegian Nobel Committee bestowed the the price to Afewarki junior as Mr. Ahmed proved himself to be. Abiy Ahmed didn’t make peace with Afewarki of Eretria, but he proved himself to be him (Afewarki) and he is trying to make Ethiopia another Eritrea.

Fortunately, for Abiy Ahmed, the writing seems to be on the wall already. He is in the same situation like Mengistu Haile-Mariam before he gave-up and fled to Zimbabwe. Tigray state is Free, Oromia and the rest of the South is in War zone. Worst of all, biting the hand that fed him, and the nation that carried him to the helm, has been wagging bloody war on Oromia and continued to do so up-until now. Thus, the bastion of the nation-Oromia is not on his side this time around – it has its own war to fight-war of independence against Ahmed’s tyranny. It is only a matter of time before his fate is like that of Mengistu Haile-Mariam at best or that of Muhammar Qaddafi.
