Metro Police said a woman was charged after nearly 200 pounds of Khat was seized from a Nashville home.

Zemzem Seraj, 47, is charged with felony possession of Khat and tampering with evidence.

Police said Seraj accepted a package of Khat that weighed about 60 pounds at her home in the 1410 block of Running Brook Road. Police found an additional 130 pounds of Khat and $9,150 cash during a subsequent search.

Police said “Khat, a Schedule I drug, is a stimulant derived from a shrub that is native to East Africa and southern Arabia. Khat leaves are typically chewed to release stimulant chemicals.”

Seraj is being held on a $160,000 bond.
