  1. Thank you Dr Tsegaye Ararssa for shading light on the sources and nature of hatred targeting the great Oromo people, and for the news that taking legal action is considered.

Nelson Mandelela once stated that “in real life we deal not with gods, but with ordinary humans like ourselves: men and women who are full of contradictions, who are stable and fickle, strong and weak, famous and infamous”.

Tragically, the Ethiopian empire has been built on complete falsehood, deception and fabrication and existed, consuming the blood of nation nationalities, who have been intentionally demonized, robbed and excluded. The neftegna and neo-neftegna have kept their political strategies and tactics more or less constant. They have effectively used plots, pitting nation nationalities against each other; they have brought up their own children brainwashed so as to mould their mind into hatred for others; they have used “galtu” individuals who have betrayed their own peoples for “injera and wat”. They have shamelessly disseminated false and character assassination against the Oromo and other nation nationalities, taking them in turn. The campaign against the Oromo people is also alarming for other nation nationalities, who have been the subjects of repression in that country.

Certain section of the neftegna have been busy equipping their children with hatred and killing mentalities from early age. The magnitude of hatred targeting the Oromo as people brought a memory flash back to my mind. Just over two decades a go I had a custom of occasionally visiting my good old friend who lived in the suburb of Finfinnee/Addis Ababa. One weekend my friend and I were sitting on the balcony of my friend chatting about the never ending Ethiopian politics in which nation nationalities have been trapped. From where we sat we could see my friend’s neighbour’s young child playing alone. I commented that “the child could have enjoyed the play had he shared it with a friend”. My intelligent friend kept quite for a while; I could observe sadness invading his face visibly. Finally, he opened up to me about the way the child’s father, who called himself “proud gondre”, was playing with his son. He reported that the child’s father would give toy weapon to his son and ask “how many would you kill”? My friend narrated, “if the child replied say ten or any other lower numerals the father would say, “no, that is not my son”. On the contrary, if the child called big figures such as thousands, millions, etc., the father would pick him up and praises him”. Being aware of what has been the norm among the neftegna and neo-neftegna, my friend and I would not take that kind of game lightly. We would discuss and try to figure out that if that father was daring enogh to ask his son at the presence of neighbours how many he was going to kill when he grew up, behind the scene he would possibly reframe the questions and ask how many “galla”, “agame”, “gudella”, “shanqilla”, ” shirixam sumalle”, etc. was he going to kill when he grew up. That kind of child would easily fall prey to the gangsters and Oromo phobic activists creating havoc in cities such as Adama, Drie Dawa, Finfinnee, etc., and participate in the killing of innocent Oromo, Qimant, Gumuz Sidama etc.

What is more tragic is the involvement of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in the politics of hate. Although the church has never been left out of political plots in that empire, the fact that Orthodox priests wrapped in the old Ethiopian flag are out there preaching hatred against the great Oromo people and nation nationalities is extremely alarming. The neftegna and neo-neftegna including those who participated in the red terror and white terror, in which genocide was committed, made America and other western countries their hide out places. The fact that they are out to openly declare hatred against the Oromo, outrageously, crosses all acceptable legal, political, philosophical and social norms red lines. Some people may be deceived that this is just a low level screaming from low level individuals including lunatic and confused individuals. Nevertheless, the hate demonstration against Jawar Mohammed and the great people of East Africa is a calculated politics, aimed at neutralizing nation nationalities and destroying the Oromo people first. Then, they assume, it will be easy to take on other nation nationalities turn by turn so as to reincarnate the dead Ethiopia in which the Oromo, the Sidama, the Walaiyta, the Somali, the Tegaru, the Affar, the Gumuz etc., will have no say. Even the decent Amhara people, whose fate is the same as their Oromo and other nation nationalities will remain in abject poverty once they are used against their neighbours, and enable the neftegna to make a comeback.

Talking of decent Amhara, I have many Amhara relatives and friends and have known those who can stop and think. The Amhara who live in abject poverty are as victims as the Oromo and others who have suffered in the Ethiopian empire. Sometimes back my relative and I used to have day outs to towns near Finfinnee. One Saturday we ended up driving to Debre Berhan city. We did not have any problem to mingle with the people as we spoke polished Finfinnee/Addis Ababa Amharic. We talked to people from all walks of lives and had informative day. As always, I was ‘a question machine’, and asked: “while the Amhara have been in control of the Ethiopian empire for more than a century, the people here seem to have suffered from chronic poverty, similar to that of other people. Why did the Amhara leaders fail to at least lift up the Amhara people out of poverty”? My well read relative was not short of answers. He started by asserting, “the answer to that questin was not complicated”, and continued, ” had the neftegna lifted up the Amhara people out of poverty, they would not have forces to mobilize against other nation nationalities. They keep them that way because it was easy for them to recruit them to fight against the Oromo and others who are painted as monsters. The neftegna have never cared either about the Amhara or other peoples of Ethiopia as far as Ethiopians could carry them on their shoulders”, he concluded.

Now the onus is on decent Amhara to come out and condemn the hatred propaganda and for the Ethiopian Orthodox Church to clarify her position. We expect the church leaders to apologize to the Oromo people in particular for taking part in orchestrating hate propaganda and politics of deception in the guise of religion. Let me clear, I was born to Orthodox parents and christened at the church. However, the church has disappointed me and fellow Ethiopian Oromo. Nation nationalities including decent Amhara, I am certain, would not also approve the participation of the church in politics of hate. The great Oromo people and nation nationalities also must upgrade their guards and tackle the poison the neftegna and neo-neftegna are spreading. The Oromo people and the Ethiopian people must stand to any disinformation and character assassination of individuals as well as section of the population. Eskinder Nega and others who have trespassed legally protected rights of the Oromo people must be brought to justice in Ethiopia as well as overseas in accordance to the laws of the lands.

    Truth and justice prevail!
